"Funny Lost Today"

Robin Williams died today. It seems it might have been a suicide. The title of this post came from a Tweet by Michael Weatherly (Tony on NCIS). This isn't something I would normally write about, but it has resurfaced a line of thinking I've had several times in the last few years. Every time a celebrity dies. No, not suicidal thoughts. The fact that these "stars" who you'd think have "everything" keep taking their own lives, is another train of thought for another blog post. Maybe some day.

Here's where my thoughts go...

As I get older, I see more and more TV and movie stars pass on into another world. Not because more are dying, but because more have had an impact on my life. Basically, I'm getting older, and this seems to be a way of age showing its gnarly face. I still remember being very sad when George Burns died. I remember thinking that he would be the first of many. It was kind of a rite of passage almost, this realization that others would die as I grow older. Odd that it was an actor, not family. I'm pretty sure I'd already understood this when my grandparents died.

Jerry Orbach is the first actor I remember crying over when he passed away. He was such a live character to me - Dirty Dancing and Law and Order being two favorites! Then there have been the many, too many lately, who are young, younger than me even, who have felt they just couldn't live any longer. Not sure I'll ever understand. For which I'm grateful as it means that I am no where near that desperation, even in my unhappiest moments!

Although Robin Williams seems to have committed suicide, he was still old enough that technically, I'm not sure we would've been surprised if it'd been natural. And so I consider him the next of many who have had an impact on my life, who I've cheered and jeered, who I will greatly miss seeing on the screen.

As you should know, if you've read my blog for long, I embrace getting older. Why not? I've seen so much, experienced so much, I am thankful for every day, and hope for many many more! But I admit, watching stars, or anyone, leave their Earthly body,  is a part of "growing up" that I just wish I could skip. I've already lost too many personally, but unfortunately it is a fact of life.

So for now, I say, Nanu Nanu to all. Love and hugs. Rest in Peace Mrs. Doubtfire. Thanks for the laughs.

Forever a Bachelorette?

Tonight was the finale of The Bachelorette. She found love. Who knows if it'll last!

I'm a bachelorette. I kinda like it. However, watching shows like this, I wonder if I'm missing something. I doubt it. But seeing how happy they are together and how romantic it all was, it makes a single girl wistful!

And then, I come home to my George, with all my stuff where I want it, and can do whatever I want!! A big diamond can NOT beat that :)

My philosophy (?) on my own personal love life is that I'm happy just the way things are. I do believe that God has a life partner for me, somewhere, sometime. I'm fine waiting. All I ask is that I know when it's "him". It'd make things easier :)

World Peace next?

I feel like I've solved all of the world's problems today!!
Okay, not really. But, I did vacuum my entire bedroom. Under the bed, behind the dressers, etc. So clean!! Of course, at the very end, I may have broken a toe, but we're gonna ignore that for the moment.
THEN, while icing my toe, I checked my favorite app - the amazon appstore - for today's free/sale app. It was easytether which my dad gas mentioned several times. Short story: for $4.99 I have internet on my computer - tv watching and all!!!!!
So, maybe I should try to balance the national budget... on second thought, maybe I should start with my own!

Ted has met their mother - spoiler

If you watch How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM) you'll know that we've followed Ted for several (4?) years in search of Ms. Right. He is telling this story to his kids who we occasionally see on the couch, reacting. In the last year or so there's been much gripe that he needed to get somewhere on his search. Last season we were teased with the fact that he dated her roommate...

I THINK (but could be wrong) that a recurring character, Zoie, was at some point said to be a roommate of that ex, but of course, not necessarily THE one.

TONIGHT, Ted and Zoie, FINALLY get together (she was married). YAY!!!

Why am I blogging about this? Well... I had this thought... if Ted has finally met HIS match, isn't it about time for me?

Not that I'm ready. Too much to deal with as a single person - debt, career solidity (is that a word?), etc. But, still...

cable tv

wow, 3 in one day. i must really miss Facebook.

so I decided I should try out Dexter. I got the first disc of the first season at the library.

not only am i not enjoying the show (i'm on the first episode) but do they really have to use the f-word quite so much? just because they can? other cable shows don't feel the need. pretty sure i don't need to watch more than this episode.

About Time

Wow, 2 in a row!

So, General Hospital has a new opening credit sequence. And I am VERY happy to see that Epiphany has finally made it!!! Maybe she'll actually get a real plot-line now too :)

and maybe the Elizabeth/Nicolas/Lucky saga will go away!!

Pooie

So I finally created this blog and now I can't come up with anything clever to say!! So I'll give you a TV review.

I have become addicted to Chuck. NBC has created a very cute, different crime-fighting show. I found the pilot at Hulu.com while bored and now I'm hooked. I have watched all of Season 1 on thewb.com. However, Season 2 came out on DVD last week and is not available anywhere for free!! Well, the last 4-5 episodes are, but not the first 18!

Solution: a 2 week free trial to the Blockbuster online rental thingy. Now I'm waiting for DVDs to arrive in the mail. I really hope I can watch it all before my 2 weeks is up. This is an excellent test for the Blockbuster program! I'll keep you posted.
